In August2024, Cam missed the bus on his way to work. Clinical leadSiobhan McKenzie noticed Cam enraged and offered him a lift. On the way, they had noticed an accident at a local newsagents where a baby had been injured by a falling sign following high winds during a storm. They got out and helped treat baby Chloe with her mum Abigail. Chloe arrived in resus unresponsive. ConsultantDylan Keogh instructed Cam to perform chest compressions on Chloe. Cam began to hesitate and doubt himself but eventually started compressions. After 35 minutes, Chloe remained in cardiac arrest, and the team - led by Dylan - eventually gave up. As the team done last offices on Chloe, Cam stood in guilt of his hesitant actions while Siobhan suggested he should to take a break. Siobhan later called a meeting to check in with the team regarding Chloe's death. Afterwards, she checked in personally with Cam. He continued to doubt himself although Siobhan reassured him that death is a big part of the job and that he did not fail Chloe. Psychiatric liaison nurseSophia Peters informed Cam that Abigail wanted to speak with him - due to him being first on scene, and that he was caring to her. He claimed that he did not feel like he would be much help to her, although after being supportive to another young patient, Cam decided that he was ready to speak with Abigail, however Siobhan disagreed wanting Abigail to have some space after her loss. Later, Cam reunited with former mentor Jamie Cleveland who reminded him of their old saying how being scared is a feeling but brave is an action, in which prompted Cam to speak with Abigail.
In the relatives room, Sophia asked Cam to run through Chloe's treatment in resus to Abigail with Siobhan - despite going against her instructions - however Cam went into to much detail about hesitating chest compressions eventually leading to Chloe's death. This caused Abigail to become agitated at him. Siobhan led Cam out of the room to her office reprimanding him for going against her. Cam apologised but Siobhan decided to put him on restricted duties and told him to reconsider whether the ED was the right place for him. (CAS: "Sinking Ships - Day One")
