Elle Gardner will join the Emergency Department of Holby General Hospital as a new consultant in May 2016.[1] She will be replacing Zoe. However, it's likely that she will be present for a while and the departure will occur after Elle's arrival.
Behind the scenes
Jaye Griffiths' first episode as Elle Gardner will air in May 2016. A single mum with three chaotic teenagers, it becomes clear that Elle is a little out of practice as she struggles with the concept of ultrasound. But using her instincts she works brilliantly and wins the team over.
Griffiths adds: "I was filming in Cardiff for Doctor Who last year, so it’s great to be back in Wales starting a new role with the Casualty team. Everyone's been extremely welcoming and the storylines are really powerful."
The first appearance of Elle in video footage was released in a trailer posted by the BBC in March 2016. It featured several snippets of scenes with her in, depicting what appeared to be a slight conflict of interest with Connie. It is also revealed that her and Jacob knew each other growing up; something which causes Connie's dislike for Elle to grow.
On 21 March 2016, William Beck posted a photo on Twitter partially revealing a diagram showing the doctors of series 31. It revealed that Elle will at some point replace Connie as Clinical Lead. Also, Zoe wasn't present on the chart which strongly implies that she will be leaving the show as only Connie and Dylan were seen below Elle.[2]
