"Entrenched" was the ninth episode of Series 29, and the 920th episode of Casualty overall.
Plot
Rita is promoted to Senior Staff Nurse. Mac attends a war memorial service unknown to Dixie. A football fan riot starts and a young boy is caught up in the fight. In A&E trouble starts for the team while Connie is away sorting out the formal opening of the new cubicles. A flare is set off in the ED and smoke fills the ED causing the alarms to wail. Matthew (a patient's partner from earlier) protects everyone from the blast while Lofty saves a young boy's life by dragging him out of cubicles. Dylan first appears back into the ED and treats the boy, who later dies because of an intracranial haemorrhage caused by an unreported blow to the head. The front-line is all too much for Big Mac as he is having trouble dealing with Jeff's death and asks for a transfer back to the ED. Connie's new cubicles are opened.
