After finding Bea asleep in the staff room, Ethan tells her that he wants to be impressed by her work in resus. She becomes involved in the cases of two brothers who she believes are responsible for a robbery. When he finds Bea taking caffeine pills and learns that she isn't taking breaks, Rash becomes concerned about her ability to cope with the pressure. Later, one of the brothers becomes critically ill after Bea misses a significant injury, and he is rushed up to surgery. After Ethan berates her for her mistake, she hits the bottle and falls over in an alley.
Meanwhile, Ethan finds Leigh-Anne at the department's pharmacy and insists in treating Kiegan who is presenting with a temperature. He initially suspects that he is suffering from a common virus but, once Kiegan starts to develop a rash, he realises that he has chickenpox. When Kiegan develops pneumonitis and is forced to stay in hospital for a few days, Leigh-Anne tells Ethan to leave her alone after he offers to help them financially and learns that he treated Scott shortly before his death. That evening, he visits them on the wards, they reconcile and begin to grow closer to each other.
