Episode 1156 of Casualty is the 18th episode of the show's 34th series. It was directed by Jordan Hogg and written by Debbie Owen.

This episode marks the return of Amanda Mealing as consultant Connie Beauchamp; she left the series for a short break at the end of series 33.

Synopsis[]

A rehabilitated Connie Beauchamp returns to the emergency department in the wake of Mason's death to find Dylan consumed with guilt. After Dylan publicly holds the hospital accountable and criticises management's apathetic response to Mason's death, Connie urges him to lead by example and give the team room to grieve and approach him for support. Dylan continues to struggle, prompting Connie to suggest that she reassume the role of clinical lead sooner than arranged. Dylan initially objects, but Connie perseveres, and Dylan relinquishes his position. However, Charlie and Archie are not as willing to forgive and forget.

With Violette nowhere to found, Ruby is considered as a temporary carer for Harmony while a home is found for her, but Ruby insists that she will find Violette. Later that day, Ruby receives a call from Violette's boyfriend and heroin dealer Arlo desperately asking for help after Violette overdoses. After Violette is taken into the ED, Ruby threatens to cut her off from Harmony if she tries to discharge herself; Violette begins to regret claiming that she does not want her daughter. Not wanting Harmony to be put into foster care and to potentially lose her forever, Ruby decides to apply to be her niece's foster parent. After Ruby tells Violette the news, Violette pledges to go to rehab for her daughter.
