Synopsis[]

After a night of heavy drinking, Dylan ends up being treated by Louise on the booze bus. The following day, he claims that he is fit to practise and throws himself into work, but his hangover starts to affect his performance in resus. He realises the state he is in and tries to go home early, but he is forced to stay, due to a shortage of staff. He continues to drink at work and endangers the life of a patient when he performs an unnecessary procedure drunk. Later, after dealing with a case of domestic abuse, Dylan suggests that he should take a few weeks off to sort himself out. In the evening, he decides to attend an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. Although he initially hesitates, he finds the courage to get help.

Meanwhile, Connie befriends an elderly couple, Maggie and Ray, as she recovers from her surgery. When Maggie learns that her chemotherapy has stopped working, Connie suggests a possible course of treatment. Later, she accompanies them to the ED after Ray becomes unresponsive, and clashes with Ethan, who has assumed the role of acting Clinical Lead, when he tells her that she has been giving them false hope. Ray continues to pressure Maggie into pursuing the treatment, and she lashes out at Connie. Later, the couple reconcile after Ray agrees to be there for his wife during her final months, and Connie gives them a handsome cheque as compensation for the financial woes she unwittingly subjected them to. Ethan confides in Connie after a difficult first shift, and the two agree to put what happened in London behind them.
