Margaret "Maggie" Coldwell is tough, fair and professional. However she was always prepared to be a maverick and go against management if it meant doing the best for a patient. This outspoken streak held her back from progressing up the career ladder, despite her great competence as a doctor. She was a good listener, and gave non-judgmental advice. Maggie started off her career in medicine as a nurse, before retraining to become a doctor.
Time in the Emergency Department (2005-08)[]
When her husband Steve was sent to jail, Maggie lied to her two children, telling them he had died. When they discovered the truth and he was subsequently released, she allowed them to travel abroad with him to Malaysia. Maggie's daughter Joanne returned to Holby and Maggie was shocked to see that she was heavily pregnant. Joanne gave birth to a baby girl called Lana and Maggie ended up sharing her house with Joanne, Lana, Toby de Silva and Ruth Winters.
Maggie finally decided to leave the ED after she was wrongfully accused of causing a patient's death. Although she was cleared by a coroner's court, she decided it was time to put Holby behind her.
Later life[]
Maggie then returned on 28 March 2009, in series 23 episode 31, for Kelsey Phillips' leaving party.
History[]
Maggie started off her career in medicine as a nurse, before retraining to become a doctor. She is highly competent, although has been held back from progressing further up the career ladder as a result of a tendency to be too outspoken with hospital management, most notably clashing frequently with Nathan Spencer. She successfully applied for the role of consultant, before Nathan claimed there was no funding to pay her post.

Susan Cookson portrayed Maggie Coldwell on Casualty between 2005 and 2008. Then made guest appearances in 2009 and 2015.
In 2015, Maggie later returned again to see best friend Zoe Hanna via webcam in "The Road Not Taken" to announce that there was a vacancy going as a helicopter doctor then we saw Maggie leave Holby again to go back to her much loved job. The events of the episode were however non-canon, so in-universe she never actually contacted Zoe.
