Series 22 of Holby City commenced in January 2020. This series was initially set to comprise 52 episodes.

On 18 March 2020, the BBC announced that all filming for BBC Studios continuing dramas, including Holby City, had been postponed until further notice due to the spread of COVID-19. On 9 April, it was announced that the series would be going on an extended break, with the last episode airing on 14 April. The show will return on 2 June.
