Template:EpisodeBoxNew2 Shades Of Love is the 18th episode of Casualty and the 3rd episode of the 2nd series. It was preceded by "A Drop of the Hard Stuff" and followed by "Cry For Help". The episode was directed by Michael Brayshaw and written by Wally Daly.

Synopsis

Charlie, on the rebound from Baz, spends the night with Karen after Susie’s party. Cyril calls for her in the morning to play squash, Charlie slips out the back. As they play squash, in another court, Rob and his mistress Marcia, are also playing, when Rob suffers a heart attack. Cyril and Karen attempt CPR, but cannot revive him, he dies. Later Marcia is knocked down by a hit and run driver, it turns out to be the fault of Sonia, the wife of Rob, when she turns up and Holby A&E and tries to suffocate her. She tells Megan how angry she is.

Mary treats an elderly woman, Mrs Devere, who is deaf, and she believes is starving, because she can’t hear the meals on wheels coming. Mary plans to tell off Mr Jarvis, who’s caring for her, but as she does he tells her she has Alzheimer’s and simply forgets she has eaten.

A model, Bunny Hopp, arrives with a grazed arm, but Mary notices a mole on her neck and suspects skin cancer. Ewart advises Bunny to get it examined, but she discharges herself. She later returns upset, realising it needs to be seen to. And a man, Mr Taylor, comes in after dropping a juggling boule on his foot.

Mr Appleyard, who’s wife has died the previous night, comes back. He wants to see her, as he doesn’t believe she’s died, but her face is badly disfigured. Ewart lets him hold her hand, and say goodbye, but covers her face.

Kuba is caught borrowing blankets from the department, to care for his elderly landlord. Ewart tells him off, which Kuba finds offensive and says he will resign. When he goes to Ewart’s office to leave his resignation note, he finds a parcel from Ewart, with a set of blankets and a note saying he can make an exception. Kuba screws up his letter.

Susie is attracted to a new policeman, Frank Jameson. Ewart arrives late to a restaurant to meet his estranged wife, Roz. They argue about a court order, which he brought up, so Roz storms off, telling him she’ll divorce him. Charlie takes Karen to breakfast, and tells her their night together was a one-off. Karen is upset.
