Thomas "Tom" Kent (born 15 June 1983) is a former doctor in the Emergency Department of Holby City Hospital. He joined the department in 2012 after completing a six month rotation with the Helicopter Emergency Medical Service.

Time in the Emergency Department (2012-2013)

Tom is the ED’s specialist paediatric doctor. It's a job he excels at as he knows how to talk to children and always takes time out to interact with them. He takes his responsibility to his patients very seriously and will always go the extra mile for them. However, this responsibility and maturity doesn't always spill over into his private life. He hates talking about his personal affairs and is something of a playboy, having flirted with Sam Nicholls since their first meeting.

Tom develops a personal relationship with fellow doctor Sam Nicholls, although confirmation that they are actually dating doesn't come until after her divorce from her estranged husband doctor Dylan Keogh is finalised.

After being blamed for missing a case of infant meningitis in The Morning After, Tom starts to suffer panic attacks when confronted with difficult situations. Sam falsifies a prescription for diazepam for him, and he becomes addicted to the drug, stealing further supplies from the department even while telling Sam he's no longer taking the pills. He came clean to Sam in Garage Flowers, asking her for help to beat the addiction. He claims to have flushed the pills as she told him to.
