Holby Wiki - Casualty and Holby City

Welcome! Hi, welcome to Casualty Wiki! Thanks for your edit to the Holby City Hospital page.

Please leave a message on my talk page if I can help with anything! Lythronax (talk) 21:11, August 27, 2019 (UTC)

Article creation

Hi. I highly recommend using other character articles as a template when creating new ones. {{CharacterBoxNewCL}} is an unused template that was intended for use on the Clinical Lead article, hence the previous and next parameters; for character articles, we use {{CharacterBoxNew}}.

If you insist on creating new articles, please actually add content to them and check to see if any high-quality images of the subject exist. I uploaded a high-res and sharp image of Effie Laurence to the wiki 12 days ago, so I have deleted your unlicensed, low-quality image. Categories are also a necessity - do not create articles and leave them uncategorised. -- Lythronax (leave a message) 11:12, September 21, 2019 (UTC)

Grammar and synopses

I appreciate you attempting to expand the synopsis for last night's episode, but there were a few issues with your edit. Please be careful about the length of your sentences and your use of commas. I have noticed a trend with your contributions where you write endless run-on sentences with loads of clauses and commas; this habit needs rectifying. There are many resources online which can help you with comma use and independent clauses, but here are two from Grammarly:

Be wary of nouns and capitalisation too. The words "seizure", "right" and "stroke" are not proper nouns and thus do not require a capital letter unless they are the first word in a sentence.

You should also be careful about what details you include in a short plot summary. For example, Connie's conversation with Duffy about Charlie was a poignant moment in the episode. However, in a short summary of the episode, it breaks the flow of the text. In my opinion, a mention of that scene would be better accommodated on Connie and Duffy's articles. -- Lythronax (leave a message) 23:22, February 2, 2020 (UTC)

RE: Messages

In regards to your most recent message, as much as I regret any upset caused, I'm really struggling to see any issues with my posts.

You say that I should condense my points of contention into a single "non-offensive" message, but isn't that what I did in the first place? I pointed out a few issues with your edit, told you what you can do in future to avoid these mistakes and even offered you links to online guides. I did not ridicule you (or intend to at the very least) or insult you for your grammatical errors; I simply told you where you went wrong and offered you some assistance. If it's my formal tone that you object to, I was trying my hardest not to come off as patronising.

Please could you help me out here? I always make a concerted effort to remain as cordial and pleasant as possible, but I have to admit that I'm failing to see how I've offended you here. -- Lythronax (leave a message) 15:57, February 3, 2020 (UTC)

I tend to write as Readers like a lot of Detail.
Having detailed articles is good, but, as I have already said, the flow of the writing should not be sacrificed so every little detail can be included. Within the scope of a short plot summary, a conversation between two characters - no matter how poignant - does not really warrant a mention. If you were writing a full description of an episode's plot, Connie and Duffy's conversation would absolutely be worth mentioning but not in a short synopsis that is only supposed to provide fundamental information.
You were not writing a full description. You only increased the article's size by around 600 bytes, and you failed to elaborate on Faith, Lev and Ruby's storylines.
You really criticised me in that message.
I highlighted issues with your grammar and writing style, and I pointed you in the direction of resources that would fix some of those issues.
You keep telling me what you don't like, rather than what you like.
I'm sorry, but that is nonsense. I told you that your use of commas and capital letters were wrong (that is a matter of fact, not personal taste); I linked to two blog posts that would have helped you learn how to use commas and separate clauses correctly, and I explicitly told you when to use capital letters for nouns. In this message, you're continuing to make these same mistakes, so it's abundantly clear that you haven't bothered to educate yourself.
I told you that the way you structured the synopsis was not optimal, and I rewrote it. If you want to know how I "like" a short plot summary to be structured, read the article now; if you want to know how I "like" a detailed plot description, read literally any episode article from the latter half of series 33.
This isn't the only time you have criticised me.
Medi, if you're not willing to learn from your mistakes, I don't think this is the right place for you. The wiki attracts thousands of visitors each day; having articles be presentable is a must. Articles need categories, infoboxes need to be kept consistent, and the writing needs to be grammatically correct. I haven't left you these messages for frivolous reasons; these things are vital.
I implore you to read those blogs I sent you, as well as some of the articles on the wiki that I have written. -- Lythronax (leave a message) 19:21, February 3, 2020 (UTC)

RE: Recap music

Hi. I'm afraid that I do not possess a clean copy of the current recap music. Sorry. -- Lythronax (leave a message) 21:36, February 14, 2020 (UTC)

Merger discussion

Hi there. I've just created a blog post about Casualty Wiki and Holby City Wiki potentially being merged. Please could you read it and give your opinion on the subject?

Kind regards. -- Lythronax (leave a message)

Thank you for your thoughts on the merger. If the proposal is generally accepted, I think the wiki would just be named Holby Wiki. -- Lythronax (leave a message) 18:35, February 18, 2020 (UTC)

Content migration

Hi. Thank you for moving some of the content from Holby City Wiki over to here. However, please don't leave articles uncategorised. For hospital positions such as Director of Cardiothoracics, the category Hospital positions exists; for actors, you can use existing categories such as Category:Holby City regular cast, Category:Casualty guest actors, etc.

Also, the actor images that you have uploaded are not really appropriate for the wiki; they're thumbnails, and you have not provided any statement regarding their legality. If you want to look for new ones, please make sure they are of adequate size, and they're released either in the public domain or under CC-BY-SA. Alternatively, if there are behind-the-scenes videos or TV interviews that you could source such images from, that would be just as great. Cheers. -- Lythronax (leave a message) 15:50, February 23, 2020 (UTC)

Connie Beauchamp

Hi. I've reverted your most recent edits, and I have deleted the image of Connie Beauchamp that you uploaded as you did not include an appropriate licence. Also, I believe that the current infobox image is superior to the one you uploaded. Ideally, the infobox image should reflect the character's usual demeanour, and we both know that Connie generally isn't a smug or sarcastic individual. -- Lythronax (leave a message) 13:12, March 1, 2020 (UTC)

RE: Episode reviews

Hi. If you choose to start creating those videos, you share them in blog posts by writing {{YoutubePlayer | id = **video ID** | width = **no. of pixels** | height = **no. of pixels** }}. -- Lythronax (leave a message) 20:15, March 8, 2020 (UTC)

RE: Staff galleries

Hi. That's absolutely fine, though please don't feel offended if I make any adjustments afterwards. -- Lythronax (leave a message) 17:51, July 22, 2020 (UTC)

Discussions reply

Don't post links to full episodes. Yes, I know that it's unfair that Casualty and Holby City episodes are so difficult to find, but you cannot put the wiki's status in jeopardy.

For the record, I fully support people sharing old episodes and loathe the BBC for forcing fans to resort to piracy to watch them. However, by posting links to those sources, you're drawing potentially unwanted attention to them and putting them at risk of litigation; this would result in the episodes being removed and many people missing out on the opportunity to obtain them. After all, there is an official BBC account on the wiki; we are known to the BBC.

My post guided them towards legal Casualty and Holby City streams and acknowledged that piracy is a necessary evil if you want to watch both shows in full while not directly linking to sources. Is it unfair? Yes, but I'm not willing to open that particular can of worms. -- Lythronax (leave a message) 22:16, August 7, 2020 (UTC)

RE: Series 34

46 episodes were initially slated for the series, and episode 33 was skipped. Of course, they might decide to end series 34 after this Saturday's episode, so we could actually be looking at a 42-episode series. That hasn't been confirmed though. -- Lythronax (leave a message) 22:28, August 18, 2020 (UTC)

RE: Promotional Image Creation

I would rather you didn't, as, first of all, I don't know what you mean by "community blog section". I also have no point of reference when it comes to your skills as a graphic designer. -- Lythronax (leave a message) 17:09, 19 December 2020 (UTC)

RE: Sahira Shah

The BBC have released a synopsis for episode 37 that explicitly states that she is returning. Hope this helps, but please remember to sign your posts with ~~~~ in future. -- Lythronax (leave a message) 18:40, 24 January 2021 (UTC)

RE: Wiki Layout

Thank you very much. I need to add a few finishing touches to the infoboxes, then I'll start writing up a manual of style and some policies. -- Lythronax (leave a message) 13:33, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

Line breaks

Hi. Please don't use <br> tags outside of infoboxes. Also, be mindful of how many line breaks you use when spacing out content in an article; two will usually do the trick. -- Lythronax (leave a message) 14:06, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

I know that this may be inconvenient, but please could you endeavour to learn how to use the source editor? I'm asking because the edits you make using the visual editor routinely obliterate the formatting of pages. Also, please stop adding Category:Past characters to the articles of characters who have just departed; characters should be written from an in-universe perspective, and these sorts of categories fly in the face of that. -- Lythronax (leave a message) 20:47, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

That doesn't have to be a problem. I have a suggestion: if you continue to use the visual editor to make substantial edits (e.g. adding new facts, changing infobox fields, etc.), you could go over your edit using the source editor to fix any formatting anomalies that might have been generated. For example:
  • Unnecessary spacing - there shouldn't be a blank line beneath section headings; only two line breaks are required in source to create a new paragraph.
  • Unused infobox fields - these should be removed from the infobox.
If you're happy with this compromise, it might be a good idea to leave a note in the summary of the visual edit saying that you're about to correct any formatting errors, especially during a period of heavy traffic (e.g. just after the end of an episode). Please let me know how you feel about this and if you need any clarifications. -- Lythronax (leave a message) 16:41, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

RE: Editing

Hi. I really appreciate that you've started using the source editor. I apologise if adjusting to it wasn't easy for it; it's just that, from my experience, the visual editor tends to wreak havoc to the formatting of articles.

Thank you also for volunteering to expand actor articles. That has always been a largely neglected area of the wiki, so any contribution is welcome. If I may offer some advice, I would suggest writing the introductions to the articles from a Casualty and Holby City-centric perspective. For example, for Amanda Mealing's article, I would write something like:

Amanda Mealing (born 22 April 1967) has portrayed Connie Beauchamp in Casualty since 2014 and in Holby City from 2004 to 2010. She has also directed three Casualty episodes since 2016.

Of course, there's a lot more that could be mentioned (e.g. her 2001 Holby City appearance and her cameo as Connie in Casualty in 2007), but that could be discussed deeper into the article. It just limits the amount of potentially contentious information in the article.

Thank you once again. I know the length of your talk page may indicate otherwise, but I do appreciate your dedication to the wiki. -- Lythronax (leave a message) 19:36, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

RE: Series 23

I thought I would answer on Life of Sodor's behalf. The BBC has recently updated the Holby City website to list series 22 as having only 44 episodes. -- Lythronax (leave a message) 20:18, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
